Set on the bank of Clew Bay on the dramatic Atlantic Coast, Westport offers spectacular coastal views with a backdrop of mountains – including the famous holy mountain Croagh Patrick.
Croagh Patrick, which is only a short distance from the town, is also known as “The Reek”. There is a church on the summit, and it is a place of pilgrimage as well as commanding dramatic views of Westport and Clew Bay. Westport Coast Hotel is Westport’s only waterfront hotel which overlooks the stunning Westport Harbour.
What’s more – and like VOYA – Westport’s Roman Island also has a historic connection with seaweed bathing. At the old Bath Hotel, which ceased trading in the late ‘50s, visitors would enjoy bathing in expansive baths with hot salt water and seaweed to enjoy its therapeutic benefits. Although the hotel no longer exists, it serves memory of the appreciation and countless benefits of seaweed in the local area.
