January Spa of the Month | Archerfield House, East Lothian

Situated just a few miles between the golfing village of Gullane and the seaside town of North Berwick, Archerfield House is a glorious 550-acre estate on Scotland’s coastline in the beautiful county of East Lothian.

At the heart of the estate is the 17th century mansion house, which was completely transformed in 2002 with the guidance of Historic Environment Scotland into the luxurious venue we see today. Golf is at the core of Archerfield estate, with two world-class courses designed by golf architect David J Russell.

In close proximity to Yellowcraigs beach, there are beautiful woodland walks and coastal paths to explore. Just a few hundred yards out to sea you can also see the tiny island of Fidra, home to the historic Fidra Lighthouse which was built in 1885. It is believed that Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island after being inspired by the isle of Fidra while staying at Marine Villa in the 19th century.

Take in the rural and coastal allure with over 40 miles of spectacular coastline, the world’s finest links golf courses, award-winning attractions and outstanding culinary experiences.

Archerfield’s multi-award winning Fletcher’s Cottage Spa is simply one of a kind, centered around exceptional treatments delivered by highly skilled therapists. Impressively it has been named Scotland’s Best Spa by The Telegraph and one of the UK’s Best by The Sunday Times.

Created by acclaimed designer Sian Parry Jones, the eclectic interior uses natural materials and a soothing colour palette, supporting the spa’s treatment-led and holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Tasteful, quirky touches like walls clad in recycled local wooden potato crates and lightshades made from chicken wire give the space a characterful and contemporary feel – while also mirroring Archerfield’s commitment to sustainability, much like VOYA.

Every corner of the purpose-built space has been carefully considered, with a rustic, deeply calming and airy yet cosy feel. The aromatic serenity of Archerfield’s spa envelops you from the moment you enter the calming wellness sanctuary, where you can enjoy views over the enchanting walled garden, a glass of champagne beside the log burners, candlelit therapeutic baths in your own private space and cleansing thermal experiences.

Collaborating with only a handful of like-minded luxury brands, at Fletcher’s Cottage Spa the philosophy is all about taking a holistic approach to wellness. At VOYA we are very proud to be one of these selected partners.

To celebrate this partnership, Archerfield are exclusively offering “Dinner on Us” if you book the following package within the month of January. You can enjoy an indulgent treatment each at Fletcher’s Cottage Spa, then spend the night in a luxury Pavilion Suite followed by a leisurely breakfast at The Clubhouse.

As part of this relaxing package, you can choose from two 60-minute restorative treatments:

VOYA Winter Revive Massage: using the VOYA Rituals range and blended seaweed-based oils, followed by a warming body gel enhanced with arnica and comfrey, your massage will be shaped to suit your needs, focusing on releasing areas of tension, and leaving muscles with a deep sense of release and relaxation.

VOYA Winter Revive Facial: depending on your skin type, this soothing treatment incorporates a combination of deep cleansing, soothing massage, and a hydrating mask to boost and revitalise tired winter skin, all with VOYA’s signature natural organic products.

(*T&C’s apply, see details below).

At VOYA we have also worked closely with some of the world’s leaders in Cancer Wellness and have designed a programme of treatments that can be enjoyed safely at any stage of your journey. These treatments are available at Fletcher’s Cottage and you can read more about this programme here.

Along with your treatment you can enjoy many other experiences at Fletcher’s Cottage. The marine steam room is a salt steam treatment, which helps the wellbeing of the body by alleviating respiratory and sinus problems as well as lethargy, leaving the skin hydrated and smooth.

We would highly recommend the lavender sauna – a sauna like no other – that uses organic lavender from Archerfield’s own garden which is dried and then used to fragrance the sauna. Spend time in here for reflection and contemplation, all while experiencing a lavender-scented detoxifying heat cleanse for your body and soul.

Featuring in the Top 10 of the European Spa Magazine UK Spa Garden Awards in 2022, Archerfield’s Walled Garden is a magical oasis with roses, wildflowers, sculptural grasses and organic herbs. It is truly idyllic; the perfect place to sit in the warmer months with a glass of fizz or a revitalising tisane.

A haven of soft sofas and warm wood overlooking the walled garden, the Relax Room is lit by subtle lamps and the flickering flames of a log burning stove. It’s pure paradise to lounge here in your robe, simply resting or browsing the magazines and newspapers.

Ultimately, every corner of this purpose-built spa has been thoughtfully considered, with deep comfort and relaxation always front of mind.

Surrounded by 550 beautiful acres, every place to stay at Archerfield offers exceptional levels of comfort and style, from luxury self-catering lodges and a cosy coastal cottage to an elegant cliff top villa. If you would like an added layer of luxury, why not book a private chef as part of your break? If you’re staying at one of the Lodges, Marine Villa or The Boathouse, a Private Chef and one of Archerfield’s front of house team can come to you – creating an incredible gourmet experience while you watch. All you have to do is relax.
